How to Succeed in your Online Stats Course
Stats has always been one of those classes that students tend to find difficult, especially those students that do not have a strong math orientation in their careers. And to add more to it, now lots of courses have online interfaces that sometimes complicate things even more.
Of course things change and now it is not about the traditional recipe: attend to presential class, attend to the discussion session, solve all the problems assigned from the book and your good to go. Now, with the online component, typically you get that plus some kind of lab experience, where you need to prove that you have learned what you were supposed to have learned.

How do I pass an online statistics class?
That question is very ample and your mileage varies. The first thing is to create a strategy that fits you, as there are no solutions that fit all sizes. You will have to enter into a cycle that fits you and works for you.
Some students need to go hard on it, and study long hours to feel confident, others need that they feel better when they are fresh and won’t stress too much with long hours of study. Others will focus solely on solving sample problems to prepare for the test.
From my experience of having known thousands of students, I would say that lots of study, lots of work on sample problems and lots of mental freshness are all crucial, and your strategy will have to have a little bit of all three, in the right measure for you.
How can I learn statistics with ease?
Statistics is a form of math, although some purists will say it is different discipline, but in its rough shape, it is math, let’s s say. And math has this thing where new ideas and concepts are built upon previous ideas and concepts.
So, in short words, if you get lost at some point, it is likely that you come to a full stop, and the next chapter is very likely based upon the previous one, so if you did not get at least a moderate understanding of the previous concepts, you will be in for a rough ride.
That is why you should always be aware of whether you are understanding things as they come along. The point you get lost is the point where you apply remediation right away. Review the material, talk to a classmate, talk to the T.A., the instructor, hire a stats tutor, but do something right there.
I am a good student, can I pass statistics without studying?
That is something I get all the time, and that is a source of sour deception. Lots of students feel that they have mastered school, but they base their appreciation on the high school experience. They tend to think that since they were great students and mastered high school, the same will happen in college.
Or even, some think that because they took this stats class in high school, they will be able to pass the stats class in college without studying, and they end up paying a tutor to help them with stats homework.
That can be a big ego bruise, but such is live. There is no causality here. The fact that you did great in high school does not necessarily imply that you do great in college. It is possible, even probable, but not a sure thing, as there are many factors at play.
Your best shot is to keep your mind flexible, be aware of things and follow a strategy. Your game plan should be decided based on your own strengths and weaknesses and the way you feel you are assimilating the contents of the course.
The minute you feel you are lost, you should definitely seek for help for a trustable statistics tutor, or even use the school resources, such as office hours and math center. But remember, always be on top, and stick to a solid game plan.
The main ideas are:
- Many students feel they will have an easy experience in college, but they base their appreciation on the high school experience.
- Statistics has always been one of the subjects that students find difficult, especially for those who don't have a strong math background in their careers.
- Statistics is a form of mathematics, although some purists will say it is a different discipline, but in its crude form it is mathematics
- Math has this thing where new ideas and concepts build on previous ideas and concepts.
