Statistics Final Exam: Will you Make it?
Have you seen Saving Private Ryan? Well, if yes, maybe the mere idea that you have a coming stats final exam can get you as nervous as if you had to go through an occupied territory, in a bloody war. And to a certain degree, successfully taking a final exam is a feat that requires strategy to win, same as successfully waging a war.
You may think the war comparison is exaggerated, and it probably is, but I just wanted to get your attention. Taking a stats test, and let a alone a Stat final, can definitely get your nervous, especially if you have been falling behind, or if your grades are falling through the cracks.
It is the end of the semester, you are overloaded, and mostly doing ok with everything, but it is that damn Stats class you don't feel confident about.
|
You REALLY don't want to fail the class, because it will ruin EVERY single plan for the next semester. And although you are not doing all that bad, it is enough for you do sufficiently bad on the final and you fail. Arrrrrgggg. It is actually a RISKY mission. Last thing you wanted to experience the last day of classes, really.
Mission Impossible: I need to pass this thing!
Either if it is an elementary statistics final exam or the final for a super advanced class, Stats is always difficult when you take a test, especially when your confidence is running at low levels. From my experience seeing thousands of students succeed, it is an important step to get the objective in mind, but not to let anxiety take over.
Students who succeed ultimately will have the goal in mind and will perform strategically a series of tasks, which I will enumerate in this tutorial. They will set their mind to the goal, but they will not get too hang up in the how. They will follow a process, a set of strategies, and the will TRUST the process. This way their minds do not get eaten up by anxiety.
Can I get a hold a sample statistics exam in pdf?
YES. That is the second step in your strategy. You MUST get as much practice material as you can, but making sure you don't get distracted with material that is not relevant strictly to the content that will cover in the test. You will be practical: you will prepare exactly what will be covered in the test, no more, no less.
Notice that I started with the second step in the strategy. The first step is to get a stats tutor if you can afford it. Don't think about, do it if you can. Otherwise, get a study group and review the content, no more no less, exactly the content that will be covered.
The reason why I mention the second step first, is that the second step is the MOST important one. Many students get hung up with getting a tutor, and reviewing the class notes, and reviewing them again, and again. The truth is the most important step is PRACTICE WITH SAMPLE PROBLEMS. Over and over.
Get a sample Statistics Final exam with questions and answers
Divide your time with your tutor (or your study group if you cannot afford a tutor) and spend a little time reviewing the concepts, and the rest of the time you should be doing sample questions, first following the steps in the answers provided, and then practicing on your own and comparing with the cheat sheet answers.
This part is tricky, because it may not be easy to find sample questions with answers that are strictly relevant to your course, so be careful to be side-tracked with material you don't need. It is best to have material that is perhaps not 100% matching your class than having no material at all, but always prioritize that material that is relevant to your class.
Make sure to get the sample test that your instructor will provide. If he or she hasn't provided one, ask for one. Instructors are not obligated to provide sample midterms or sample exams, but if students ask for it, it is not well regarded upon them if they don't provide it. Even, you can request a sample exam with solutions, and chances are you will get it.
Statistics question banks pdf
Be wary of buying test banks online, because they may not serve your purpose, and you will end up spending money on something you may use more productively on a tutor or on dozens of cups of Frappuccinos. Test banks are oriented to specific textbooks and usually they come with multiple choice solutions or the answers they provide may not be step-by-step, but they are usually rather succinct.
Indeed, maybe your best chance is to pay your stats tutor to solve problems for you showing all the steps, because those are the answers that can teach you the mechanics you need to emulate.
Summarizing: The Strategy to Win
- Get a tutor. If you can afford it, get a study group
- Get sample material that is very relevant to the test and PRACTICE, PRACTICE and PRACTICE.
- Ask your instructor for practice material. He or she will provide it if you ask for it
- Only concentrate on the material that is RELEVANT. Keep your mind free of other distractions, and do not overload it with unnecessary concerns
- Review the material, but most practice solving problems similar to those that will be covered.
There is only one certainty: the more you practice, the more comfortable you will feel in your skin the day of the test, and the better the grade you will get. THAT IS IT.
